California based Smart Battery maker “Roost” has recently announced its intent to start working with Facebook Parse (the IoT platform recently launched by Facebook).
Roost is a smart battery maker with its battery working for smoke detectors. Battery itself is a quick slide by into the smoke detector to replace its existing battery and features wifi connectivity. In the time of any hazard the mobile app notifies the owners of any hazards back at home.
Roost will be using Facebook Parse as its cloud based infrastructure provider. In words of Roost CEO and Co-founder Roel Peeters: “Roost is pleased to have been selected to participate and demo at F8 as Parse expands its scope and becomes a core platform provider for the Internet of Things. A key promise of technology is that it makes your life easier and solves real problems. Utilizing the Parse Cloud, the Roost Smart Battery will give consumers and their families reliability and scalability, resulting in the peace-of-mind that their smoke alarms just got smarter, and their families safer.”
With the usage of Parse, Roost is moving towards concentrating big time on its technology and apps, leaving backend maintenance to Parse. Roost has announced its plans to use complete suite of Parse product offerings, like Parse Core, Parse Push and Parse Analytics. Parse core would help in running custom app code and scheduling jobs on Parse Cloud. Using Parse Push would enable Roost to send create and schedule push notifications. And, Parse Analytics would provide Roost the ability to track app usage and custom analytics in real time.
It would be interesting to see the outcome of this innovative integration.
